Frequently Asked Questions & Safety Tips

If you have a question, we have an answer. If you don't see an answer to your question here, call us at 1.877.769.2453 or email customerservice@rowbike.com. We will find an answer to your question.

Q: I’m a larger build. Is there a weight limit to Rowbike?

A: We have had Rowbikers that started out weighing over 300 lbs.

Q: How much does Rowbike weigh?

A: The weight of a Rowbike is similar to a regular bike – about 45 lbs.

Q: Rowbike difficult to steer?

A: Not at all. While steering looks quite different than a regular bike, you will catch on in no time at all. Steering is very, very easy. You steer with the handlebars similar to a regular pedal bicycle.

Q: How do I learn how to ride my Rowbike?

A: A first time user typically takes about 20 minutes to really be able to ride the bike with confidence. We suggest you go to a flat large parking lot for your first time riding. We have online videos to help you but it’s really simple – just always keep one foot on the ground to start and start slowly. You’ll be a pro in no time!

Q: Does Rowbike come assembled or do I have to put it together?

A: There is minimal assembly required. Just follow the simple assembly instructions. Most customers are done in 20 to 30 minutes. And, of course we are here to take your calls should you run into any issues but for the most part it’s very straightforward and we get very few calls for help.

Q: How much is shipping? And, how long does it take to get my Rowbike once I place my order?

A: We ship UPS Ground and shipping is just $59. Depending on where your Rowbike is being shipped it usually arrives within 3-5 days. Rowbike is shipped from the Los Angeles area.

Q: What if I don’t like the Rowbike - Can I return it?

A: We have a 60 day return policy (from the day you receive your bike). If you don’t like the Rowbike before that time period ends, just give us a call and you can ship the bike back in the original box. We will reimburse you your full amount of the purchase minus shipping and handling.

Q: Is there a store nearby that I can try Rowbike before I buy it?

A: The good news is we are not set up at this time to sell in a retail environment. Why is this good? This means we can keep our costs down and ship directly from our warehouse to you. If we sold in stores we would have to charge more for Rowbike. This means there is no store that you can go and try Rowbike. However, our 60 day return policy gives you ample time to decide whether the bike is right for you. We have an extremely low return rate. Returns happen from time to time but for the most part Rowbike owners are extremely satisfied!

Q: What’s the difference between the Sport model and the King model?

A: The frames on both models are exactly the same. The only difference between the two is the wheels on the King are larger, raising the bike farther off the ground. If your inseam is more than 32” you will be more comfortable on a King.

Q: Can you ride up hills with the Rowbike?

A: Yes. As you get into great shape, you will conquer hills you never thought possible.

Q: Can Rowbike be used off road on trails like a mountain bike?

A: We do not recommend that you use the Rowbike as a mountain bike. Rowbike is best for paved surfaces and bike paths.

Q: Will I ever need parts for my Rowbike? Where do I get replacement parts?

A: From time to time you may need replacement parts as you would a traditional bicycle. Your local bike shop will also have most of the replacement parts needed for your Rowbike. The parts unique to Rowbike are available from Rowbike.

Q: Does the Rowbike fit on most major brand bike racks?

A: Yes. If you plan on transporting 2 Rowbikes you will need a 4 bike rack.

Q: Does the Rowbike have a guarantee?

A: Rowbike comes with a lifetime guarantee on the frame and power lever and 1 year on all the bike components.

Q: How fast will the Rowbike go?

A: On a flat terrain you should average 12-14 mph. Rowbike’s top speed on flat ground is over 20 mph.

Q: Can I use my Rowbike to commute to work?

A: Yes, many Rowbike owners do.

Safety Tips

Rowing on your Rowbike is just like other forms of exercise. It can be a powerful cardiovascular workout. If you're just starting to work out, do yourself a favor and consult with a doctor. Rowing is health maintenance.

Wet weather riding impairs traction, brakes, and visibility. The risk of an accident is dramatically increased in wet conditions. Proper maintenance of your Rowbike is your responsibility and helps reduce the risk of injury.

As with any new activity you need to get started with the right conditions, similar to when learning how to ski, Rollerblade or bicycle. Do this by reading the "Getting Started" section of the user's manual for specific startup operations and precautions to take.

Like any recreational activity on a bike path, the Rowbike requires you to be aware of your surroundings and to be careful when riding. With any recreation, there is a risk of damage or injury. You inherit this risk by choosing to ride the Rowbike. Be sure to practice and become familiar with the rules of safe and responsible rowing.

Always follow the simple rules when rolling:

  • Always make sure your Rowbike is in good working condition.
  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Always wear a good pair of shoes that grip the footrest properly, and give you better traction when starting and stopping.
  • Familiarize yourself well with the controls of the Rowbike before going out for your first row.
  • Wear bright, visible clothing that is not too loose (loose clothing could catch on moving parts of the Rowbike).
  • Follow all local law enforcement laws pertaining to these types of recreational activities.

Stay off city streets!

  • Look ahead of where you're going, and beware of
    • Vehicle slowing or turning in front of you, entering your path or lane ahead of you, or coming up behind you.
    • Pedestrians stepping out in front of you.
    • Potholes, sewer grading, railroad tracks, expansion joints, debris and other obstructions that could cause you to swerve into traffic, catch a wheel or otherwise cause you to lose control and have an accident.
  • Never ride with headphones!
  • Never carry a passenger. The Rowbike was designed for one person and one person only. Attempts to carry more than one person can result in serious injury.
  • Never carry anything which obstructs your vision or control of the Rowbike, or which would become in tangled in the moving parts of the Rowbike.
  • Don't do stunts, wheelies or jumps. They can cause injury and damage the Rowbike.
  • Never ride your Rowbike under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • You must put the power lever in the forward position when going over speed bumps or curbs.
